To the history of instrumental class of the Court Singing Capella. Sergei Belkin (1836–1918), a teacher of trombone and tuba

Abstract

Obtaining professional music education on wind instruments in the capital of the Russian Empire had long been associated with the St. Petersburg Conservatory of the Imperial Music Society, the opening of which took place in 1862. In its walls the trombone and tuba class for almost 40 years was led by Franz Iosifovich Turner.

Instrumental class of the Court singing Capella training in which on wind instruments fully began in 1887 in a short period of its activity was able to meet real competition to graduates of the conservatory. Largely thanks to the students of the instrumental class the difficult situation that arose in Petrograd orchestras after the events of 1917 when most foreign musicians left the country, did not become critical.

Based on the material of the state archives and periodical issues of the epoch concerning the history of creation and formation are revealed as well as training on wind instruments in the instrumental class.

For the first time the full biography of the trombone and tuba teacher of the instrumental class as well as soloist Orchestra Russian Opera of the Mariinsky theatre Sergei Sergeevich Belkin (1836–1918) who made a great contribution for the formation of the local trombone school and at the same time was not deservedly forgotten in our days is preserved. The article also provides brief biographical information about the most famous of his students!
